The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly‑talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, Headquarters, or affiliated institute. Fellowships last one to three years and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.
This opportunity is closed to applicants who are Senior Fellows (5‑years or more past PhD). The Earth's land surface is highly heterogeneous and affected by human modifications, making it challenging to represent in land surface models. Remote sensing provides observations over large areas, and retrievals from satellite data are typically obtained through statistical or inverse radiative transfer models (RTMs). The proposed research aims to develop strategies that evaluate and improve the information content of terrestrial remote sensing measurements. Modern computing and statistical techniques will be employed to extract complex patterns and relationships, examine synergy across different measurements, and produce better model‑evaluation and data‑assimilation products.
