Job summary

Jubilee Housing in Washington, DC seeks an Early Start Program Associate to run the after-school and summer program for K–4 youth. You will work under the Early Start/Activity Zone Program Manager, with hours including after-school and summer camp scheduling.

The role emphasizes engaging lesson plans, socioemotional learning, and maintaining a safe, inclusive environment while coordinating with staff and families.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to supporting academic performance of youth from low-income families.
  • BS/BA in child/youth development, education, social work or related field.
  • Commitment to professional development within Jubilee Housing related to youth development.
  • Must utilize developmentally appropriate classroom management for K–4th graders.
  • At least two years of experience with Black and Latinx youth from low-income households.
  • Demonstrable experience working as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work after-school hours (11 am–7 pm) and summer camp hours (8:30 am–3:30 pm).

Position Description

The Early Start (ES) Program Associate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the day-to-day operations of the after school and summer program for Jubilee Housing youth in grades K-4. The ES Program Associate will report to the Early Start/Activity Zone Program Manager.

This position is permanent, full-time employment. Work hours are Mon. – Thurs., 11:30 am -7:30 pm and 9:00-5:00 pm on Fridays. Afterschool program hours during the school year are 3:30 - 7:00 pm, Mon. – Thurs. During our six-week summer camp program, the program hours are 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Work Hours are from 8:30 am- 3:30 pm.

Specific Duties
  • Assist and support in the implementation of out of school time and summer programming for youth in grades K through 4th grade
  • Lead daily activities, including but not limited to tutoring, socioemotional learning, and additional enrichment activities
  • Lead groups of youth in a safe, professional, and respectful manner
  • Nurture a safe, respectful, challenging and inclusive environment
  • Assist with outreach and communications for participant recruitment and retention
  • Assist with administering and collecting student and parent surveys
  • Update and maintain database input of all participants and program activities
  • Establish and maintain communication with members of the staff about student needs and aspects of the program
  • Maintain regular, professional communication with parents and guardians regarding attendance, student progress, behavior, program updates, and upcoming events.
  • Provide support to volunteer tutors and mentors
  • Support children's emotional, academic, and social development, and maintain
  • awareness of individual needs
  • Support the Early Start/Activity Zone Program Manager with the implementation and tracking of individualized plans for each participant
  • Support new program initiatives impacting Jubilee Housing, Platform of Hope, and additional partner organizations at the direction of the Director of Youth Services and the Vice President of Programs
  • Participate in the implementation of other program areas within Youth Services, including family programming and volunteer recruitment, training and support
  • Create a plan and coordinate transition efforts for participants moving within programs at Jubilee Youth Services
  • Other duties as assigned by the Early Start/Activity Zone Program Manager and Director of Youth Services
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with program goals in literacy, STEM, arts, SEL, recreation, and enrichment.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies and maintain consistent classroom expectations.
Desired Qualifications
  • A commitment to supporting the academic performance and resourcefulness of youth from low-income families/background
  • BS/BA in child/youth development, education, social work or other related field
  • A commitment to professional development within and outside of Jubilee Housing related to current trends and youth development
  • Must utilize developmentally appropriate classroom management skills and strategies for K-4th graders
  • At least two years of experience working with black and Latinx youth of low-income households, preferably elementary-aged children
  • Demonstrable experience working as part of a team
  • Willingness to work weekday late morning and evening hours for afterschool program (11 am – 7 pm) and during summer camp that typically operates for 6 weeks during the month of July through mid-August from (8:30 am – 3:30 pm)
