WSP's Saint Louis, MO office is seeking an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer to contribute to the Power Delivery Substation Team. You will participate in detailed design and QA/QC across low to HV substations, including one-line diagrams, wiring, SCADA, grounding, and yard layouts, working with a collaborative team to meet client objectives.

Ideal candidates hold a BSEE or BSEET and 0–1 years of experience, are legally eligible to work in the U.S., and are eager to relocate to Saint

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 0–1 year of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to relocate to Saint Louis, MO.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed design of substations including one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring, SCADA, and grounding.
  • Create foundation, structural, and enclosure design details.
  • Develop BOMs and site layouts and perform site visits.
  • Support QA/QC for client deliverables.
  • Adhere to company safety standards and code of conduct.

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Entry-Level Substation Electrical Engineer for our Saint Louis, MO office.

This Opportunity

The Entry Level Substation Electrical Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with WSP's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain WSP's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.

Your Impact
  • Perform the detailed design of low to extra-high voltage substations including, but not limited to:

    • One-line diagrams

    • Schematics

    • Wiring diagrams

    • SCADA

    • Communications

    • Station physical layouts

    • Sections/Elevations

    • Cable and conduit plans and details

    • Ground grid design and details

    • Foundation plans and details

    • Structural plans and details

    • Control enclosure design and details

    • Lightning protection plans

    • Yard lighting plans

    • Bills of Materials

    • Site visits

  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • Shall learn, understand, and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs.

  • The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • 0-1 years of experience .

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of electrical engineering to build on.

  • Candidates should enjoy living in the St Louis area, or have a desire and ability to relocate there with minimal assistance.

  • Must have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least three months of relevant electrical engineering work experience; could be on an internship or co-op basis

  • Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA)

  • Knowledge of electrical utility substations and familiarity with substation design

  • Engineer In Training certificate (EIT) or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
