General Purpose

The Retail Associate ensures our customers have a positive shopping experience. Responsibilities include greeting customers courteously, maintaining a clean work environment, proper merchandise presentation, and performing various store functions as needed. The role requires engagement in assigned tasks during all working hours and flexibility to perform additional tasks to meet customer service and operational goals.

Essential Functions

  • Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors at all times.
  • Create a safe shopping environment by maintaining awareness and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; recognize fellow associates.
  • Assist customers with merchandise, questions, and transactions politely and efficiently.
  • Respond promptly to customer service calls and issues, involving leadership when necessary.
  • Support the Ross brand and company standards.
  • Perform cleaning tasks to maintain store cleanliness.
  • Adhere to dress code and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Organize and recover merchandise to company standards.
  • Expedite merchandise receipts to the sales floor, merchandising according to guidelines.
  • Understand loss prevention policies and merchandise protection standards.
  • Demonstrate integrity and safeguard confidential information.
  • Follow policies regarding stock management, cash handling, and transactions.
  • Work efficiently to maximize productivity.

Qualifications and Skills

Effective communication with customers, colleagues, and leadership in a friendly, respectful manner. Basic mathematical skills are required.

Physical Requirements / ADA

  • Use of store equipment including registers and PCs.
  • Stand, walk, and move around the store up to 100% of the time.
  • Bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach, and carry/lift up to 25 pounds regularly; more for stockroom shifts.
  • Use janitorial and store equipment as needed.
