Job summary

FedEx Freight, Inc. is seeking a dockworker to transport freight between dock areas and trailers, using forklifts and hand tools.

The role ensures safe loading, verification of paperwork, and securement of cargo for transit, with emphasis on attendance and following procedures in a fast-paced environment. Eligible Regular full & part-time employees may access medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus tuition reimbursement and 401(k) eligibility after some tenure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Prior experience in warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift operations preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, up to ~100 lbs and up to 75 lbs for dock doors, several times per day.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers.
• Perform freight handling using forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials) in current system.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope, or other tools.
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with all laws, regulations, and company policies.
