Kai Ming, Inc. in San Francisco seeks an Early Learning Mentor to coach STEP substitute teachers and staff, delivering professional development and culturally responsive coaching.

You will lead onboarding, observations, and growth planning to elevate early childhood learning, while ensuring licensing compliance and best practices. The role emphasizes collaboration with education teams, data-informed coaching, and program quality improvement to enhance outcomes for 0–5 children.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Human Development, Social Sciences, Talent Development or related field is required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 3–5 years of experience in a public or private organization or community development agency providing direct delivery of services to clients
  • Experience working directly with 0–5 children in a teaching position, families and staff in an early care and education setting
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
  • Understanding and use of the principles and practices of the ECE field, including reflective practice, dual language learning and Practice-Based Coaching
  • Knowledge of ERS and CLASS; completion of 2-day observer training for CLASS and in-depth training for ERS tools (ECERS and ITERS)
  • PITC philosophy and California Learning Foundations frameworks knowledge; state curriculums familiarity
  • State laws related to child care licensing
  • Curriculum development and quality improvement planning experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and mentoring to STEP substitute teachers
  • Develop ongoing professional development for STEP substitute teachers and staff
  • Ensure program plans and procedures are known and followed
  • Move practices from compliance to quality best practices
  • Onboard newly hired STEP substitute teachers for ongoing success
  • Coach teachers on curriculum, frameworks and assessment tools
  • Identify classroom goals and develop individualized professional growth plans
  • Provide materials and resources to support development plans
  • Conduct in-class observations and assess teaching practices and environment
  • Document meetings, progress and plans using database systems
  • Create and deliver STEP substitute teacher training and LMS content
  • Collaborate with staff to anticipate talent gaps and plan solutions
  • Align talent development with performance reviews, DEI and leadership initiatives
  • Coordinate with colleges and training entities for staff development
  • Review performance data to draft action plans and improvements
  • Maintain confidentiality according to policy
