Summary

The ELC Instructional Assistant (IA) supports teachers by carrying out in‑ and out‑of‑classroom duties that help deliver developmentally appropriate, challenging, and engaging instruction. The IA builds meaningful relationships with students, fostering a love of learning, and collaborates with teachers to maintain open communication with families, encouraging parents or guardians to become education advocates for their children.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Help teachers maintain a structured, positive classroom to encourage critical thinking.
  • Assist teachers in ensuring continuous student growth, including grading student work, entering data into PowerTeacher Pro and Student Notes, and planning instruction (reading groups, enrichment projects, energizers, morning meeting, closing circle, science projects, etc.).
  • Maintain classroom organization (library books, board agenda, technology set‑up, furniture, materials, and copies).
  • Communicate with team members and specialists via e‑mail, inform interventionists about field trips, and interact with families (assist with phone calls and e‑mail, serve as backup point‑of‑contact for room parents).
  • Update bulletin boards, displays of student work, monthly newsletters, anchor charts, and manage student portfolios.
  • Maintain cooperative and respectful relationships with students, parents, and personnel.
  • Demonstrate efficient work habits (punctuality, satisfactory attendance, use of personal time, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, attending grade‑level meetings, professional performance of duties).
  • Model professional and ethical standards in interactions with students, parents, peers, and leaders.
Certification, Knowledge and Skills
  • Associate’s degree plus 1–3 years of experience in education, childcare or a related field.
  • Associate’s degree in Education or Early Childhood Education preferred.
  • Applicant must be on the teacher track.
  • All work responsibilities are subject to performance goals and targets established by the Board and NBFA.
  • Willingness and ability to receive constructive criticism to improve practices.
