JOB TITLE: Early Head Start Teacher

STATUS: Nonexempt

NUMBER OF WORKING DAYS: 245

Position Summary:

Responsible for working collaboratively with the Teacher Assistant and other staff to provide infants and toddlers with a safe, healthy learning environment. The role involves supporting physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development, providing positive guidance, fostering relationships with families, and ensuring a well-organized, responsive program with a commitment to professionalism.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be 19 years or older with a High School Diploma or GED; BS or BA in Early Childhood Development preferred.
  • Experience in a preschool setting is preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited college or university, or a CDA/equivalent course from an accredited institution, is preferred.
  • Must have a caring, service-oriented attitude, resourcefulness, good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must meet all current childcare regulations, standards, and agency policies.
  • Willing to obtain current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and adherence to safety procedures are essential.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work well with diverse families, and provide leadership in the classroom.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members on lesson planning and classroom management.
  • Communicate with parents verbally and in writing.
  • Build trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Ensure documentation of child outcomes in TS Gold.
  • Focus on routines, relationships, development, and care of children.
  • Stay current with professional development in early childhood.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Serve on committees and mentor new staff.
  • Assist at other centers if needed.
  • Participate in special projects and support the organization's mission and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Relationships and Scope:

Regular interaction with children, families, program staff, community members, and professionals.

Measure of Performance:

Demonstrates servant leadership, excellent communication, reliability, trustworthiness, and professionalism. Uses training effectively, works independently and in teams, maintains confidentiality.

Working Conditions:

Primarily at a school site with moderate risk of injury. Must participate actively in activities, emergency procedures, and care for children with special needs. Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform sitting, standing, bending, and lifting activities.

Other Characteristics:

Must possess a valid driver’s license, meet all regulations, and obtain necessary certifications. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and participate actively with children. Punctuality and adherence to safety protocols are required.
