This job posting is for YMCA EHS in Huntsville, AL

NUMBER OF WORKING DAYS: 245

Position Summary:

Responsible for working in a team effort with the Teacher Assistant and other program staff to provide infants and toddlers with a safe and healthy learning environment, advancing their physical and intellectual growth, supporting social and emotional development, providing positive guidance and discipline, establishing positive relationships with families and encouraging their involvement in the education of their children, ensuring a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant’s needs, and maintaining a commitment to professionalism.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be 19 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED. BS or BA in Early Childhood Development preferred.
  • Experience working in a pre-school environment preferred.
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from an accredited college or university (minimum requirement - Reauthorization Act 2007), or age-appropriate CDA/equivalent coursework from an accredited institution.
  • Qualifications include a caring and service-oriented attitude, resourcefulness, good interpersonal skills, and effective communication.
  • Must meet current childcare employee regulations, Performance Standards, and agency regulations.
  • Hold or be willing to obtain current age-appropriate CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Dependability, punctuality, and proper use of safety equipment and procedures are required.
  • Ability to communicate in a second language is preferred.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and implement daily programs for young children, work well with parents, and provide leadership and problem-solving with staff.
  • Ability to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement daily activities using Infant/Toddler School Readiness Goals as a guide.
  • Provide guidance and positive discipline in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop lesson plans and manage classroom resources.
  • Communicate effectively with parents verbally and in writing.
  • Lead and problem-solve with children and staff.
  • Build trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Ensure completion of child outcome documentation in TS Gold.
  • Focus on routines, relationships, development, and care of children.
  • Stay current with professional development in early childhood.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Serve on committees and as a mentor for new staff.
  • Assist at other centers if needed to maintain ratios.
  • Participate in special projects and support the vision, mission, and values of the Partnership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Relationships and Scope:

Regular interaction with children, families, program staff, community members, and professionals.

Measure of Performance:

Demonstrates servant leadership, effective communication, reliability, trustworthiness, and confidence. Maintains confidentiality and works well independently and in teams.

Working Conditions:

Mainly at a school site with moderate exposure to injury. Requirements include participating in daily activities, emergency procedures, and caring for children with special needs. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, sit, stand, bend, and lift minimally. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record are required.

Other Characteristics:
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and actively participate in children's activities.
  • Punctuality and adherence to safety protocols and attire requirements.

All candidates must pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.
