Good Samaritan Community Services is a 501(c)3 organization serving underserved communities with integrated services to over 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in San Antonio, Brownsville, and other parts of South and West Texas.

Founded in 1939 as a mission of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, we focus on health, education, and social-emotional needs, aiming to support families through programs and services that promote stability, nurturing relationships, and self-sufficiency.

Position Summary

The Early Head Start Teacher provides direct care, education, health, and safety for infants and toddlers, promoting their language, social-emotional, cognitive, and creative development, while ensuring classroom quality and compliance with assessments.

Required Education and Experience

  • Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) in Infants and Toddlers or 18 hours of Early Childhood courses.
  • Two years of experience in childcare or daycare setting.
  • Active driver’s license with a clean record.
  • CPR certification.
  • Proficiency in word processing software and email.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Essential Duties & Functions

  • Adhere to Good Samaritan's CORE values.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Supervise and engage with children positively and respectfully.
  • Maintain visual and auditory supervision for safety.
  • Collaborate on lesson plans and participate in team meetings.
  • Assess and document child development progress.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences at least twice a year.
  • Build positive relationships with parents.
  • Complete required reports accurately and timely.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
  • Ensure classroom supplies and safety measures are in place.
  • Establish professional relationships with staff and visitors.
  • Complete 24 hours of training annually in child development topics.
  • Maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Participate in staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage interns, volunteers, and work-study students as assigned.

Work Environment

Professional and educational office environment.

Physical Demands

Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Expected Hours of Work

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with occasional long hours and weekend work.

Travel

Occasional out-of-town and local travel.

Benefits and Compensation

Salary ranges from $15.00 to $16.00/hr, with a competitive package based on education, skills, and experience.
