Description
The EHS Center-Based Teacher, under the supervision of the EHS Center-Based Supervisor, is responsible for working with very young children, their parents, other staff, volunteers, and community partners to provide developmentally appropriate quality childcare in a center-based environment that is in compliance with all Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Requirements, and other requirements as appropriate.
Hours and Compensation
- Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
- Pay: Based on experience and education

Early Childhood experience with an Infant Toddler CDA
Principle Accountabilities
- Implement a developmentally appropriate center-based program in partnership with parents, based on each child's individual needs.
- Provide responsive care to center-based children.
- Ensure the safety of each child, checking toys and equipment daily.
- Integrate Head Start Program Performance Standards and State Licensing Requirements into the schedule and curriculum.
- Communicate daily with parents verbally and in writing.
- Guide EHS Teacher Assistants and Substitutes in classroom procedures.
- Work with the Early Head Start Child Development and Disabilities Coordinator to complete screenings, assessments, and reports timely, discussing findings with parents.
- Develop and implement written children’s goals using screening reports, working with families, and assisting in implementing IFSP for dually enrolled children.
- Assist parents in planning and facilitating written goals via the Family Partnership Agreement.
- Complete 2 home visits and 2 parent conferences annually per child.
- Respect and incorporate the ethnic and cultural backgrounds of families, children, clients, and staff.
Other Requirements
- Complete all paperwork accurately and timely.
- Fulfill additional educational requirements as regulation mandates.
- Participate in ongoing training activities.
- Follow all policies and procedures of Carey Services and Early Head Start.
- Promote safety and housekeeping; engage in preventive maintenance and quality service.
- Be flexible with schedules based on EHS needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum CDA or comparable credential, with training in early childhood development focusing on infants and toddlers; an Associate or Bachelor degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred.
- Ability to provide nurturing interactions, plan and implement curriculum, and assess children’s progress according to Head Start and state standards, including for children with disabilities and dual language learners.
- Nurturing skills, positive guidance, and ability to move and play with small children, including routine tasks like diaper changing and feeding.
- Effective communication skills with infants and toddlers.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and good verbal and written communication.
- Qualities such as adaptability, teamwork, initiative, planning, and problem-solving.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, sit, and move small children weighing 5-50 pounds.
- Necessary sensory capacities to perform essential functions.
