Position Overview

Title: Infant Toddler Teacher - Early Head Start Program
Reports To: Early Head Start Center Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Primary Function

Responsible for planning, implementing, and managing an Early Head Start classroom, including daily operations, supervising staff and volunteers, and ensuring compliance with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) regulations, Head Start Performance Standards, and the Head Start Act (OHS) regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Supervision and Professional Development
    • Collaborate with co-teacher to improve scores on CLASS, ITERS, and QRIS assessments.
    • Meet bi-monthly with Center Manager for supervision, classroom observations, policy review, and professional development planning.
    • Ensure compliance with policies and conduct case conferences as needed.
    • Guide and support floaters and substitutes.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  2. Classroom Management and Curriculum
    • Create a developmentally appropriate environment.
    • Maintain a safe, healthy, and clean classroom.
    • Engage with parents to meet child and family needs.
    • Integrate CLASS and ITERS guidelines into daily activities.
    • Develop weekly lesson plans with individualized activities based on assessments.
    • Provide activities across all developmental areas, respecting cultural diversity.
    • Maintain a print-rich environment with labels and visuals in multiple languages.
    • Foster warm, positive, and respectful interactions with children.
  3. Compliance and Record Keeping
    • Ensure adherence to OHS, DEEC, USDA, and local regulations.
    • Maintain appropriate staff-to-child ratios and serve as a substitute or bus monitor when needed.
    • Conduct home visits, parent conferences, and maintain confidential records.
    • Complete required documentation and assessments.
    • Utilize data systems and assessment software effectively.
  4. Personal and Professional Growth
    • Attend mandated trainings and workshops.
    • Seek additional educational opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  5. Qualifications
    • Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate credential.
    • Working towards or possessing an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
    • Meet DEEC Infant/Toddler Teacher qualifications.
    • Knowledge of DEEC and OHS regulations.
Physical Demands

Must be able to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and handle objects. Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements include close vision and focus adjustment.
