Job summary

College of Southern Idaho is seeking an Early Head Start Classroom Assistant to create a warm, nurturing environment for toddlers and assist in delivering individualized Early Head Start experiences.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and at least six months of experience with young children. Candidates must be 18+, pass a criminal record check, and participate in required trainings and evaluations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six months experience working with young children required.
• Eighteen years of age or older required.
• Complete criminal record check from Department of Health & Welfare’s Criminal History Unit prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Treat participants, fellow staff and community members with positive regard.
• Work on developmentally appropriate tasks with designated children during small group time.
• Provide appropriate role model for behavior, speech, eating, etc.
• Attend post-class evaluations and report child progress to Toddler Teacher.
• Manage behavior through acceptable methods and consult Toddler Teachers or Mental Health Professional when needed.
• Attend training as requested by supervisor and provided by program.
• Complete paperwork as assigned by supervisor.
• Work with entire class as assigned by supervisor.
• Participate in an individualized continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL

• Treat participants, fellow staff and community members with positive regard.
• Work on developmentally appropriate tasks in specific areas of need with designated children during small group time.
• Provide appropriate role model for behavior, speech, eating, etc.
• Attend post-class evaluations and provide information to Toddler Teacher about the child’s activities/progress for that day.
• Manage behavior through acceptable methods. If there are questions, ask the Toddler Teachers or Mental Health Professional.
• Attend training as requested by supervisor and provided by program.
• Complete paperwork as assigned by supervisor.
• Work with entire class as assigned by supervisor.
• Participate in an individualized continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid.

ADDITIONAL

• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding children's records and information relating to the center
• Demonstrate sensitivity to children
• Perform other duties as assigned
