Job summary

The Early Elementary Behavior Support Paraprofessional provides behavioral, social-emotional, and instructional support to students in kindergarten through second grade. Working under the supervision of the building principal, this position supports multiple classrooms and students to promote self-regulation, positive behavior, safety, and access to learning.

The position requires an Associate’s degree, experience with young children, and strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience working with young children in educational, childcare, behavioral, or related settings.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration and recordkeeping skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support students with behavioral, emotional, and self-regulation needs.
  • Assist in implementing behavior intervention and safety plans.
  • Reinforce positive behavior expectations and school-wide systems.
  • Support students during transitions, classroom instruction, and unstructured times.
  • Utilize de-escalation strategies and crisis prevention techniques.
  • Respond appropriately to situations involving aggression, elopement, or disruptive behavior.
  • Collect and communicate behavioral data as directed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to promote student success.
  • Obtain certification in district-approved crisis prevention programs, including CPI and Ukeru.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Attending staff meetings as requested.
  • Attending professional learning as requested.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Pay Grade: Grade 3, Step 1, $17.51 per hour

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.

Terms of Employment: The employee will remain free of any alcohol or drugs throughout his/her employment with the district as outlined in Board Policy #4210.
