Job summary

Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeks a dynamic Teaching Assistant to educate and care for students in our Early Childhood Program (8:00-3:15) and Extended Day Care (3:15-5:00). Under the Lead Teacher, you will implement play and learning experiences aligned with our mission to maximize young people’s potential.

You will foster a warm, inclusive, and safe environment, support children’s development, observe progress with teachers, and communicate with families.

Qualifications

• Essential: CDA credential or an associate/bachelor degree in early childhood or elementary education, or enrollment in one of these programs, or a degree in another discipline.
• Ability to interact and play with children at their physical level, indoors and outdoors in different weather.
• Ability to lift and assist with children and moderately heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Create a warm, loving and safe environment for children.
• Scaffold children’s learning during child-initiated activities and adult-led instruction.
• Encourage diversity by including all students and engaging in anti-bias practices.
• Develop engaging experiences with the lead teacher to support development across domains.
• Observe, record, and assess children’s learning and development with the lead teacher.
• Communicate with families.
• Attend to general set up/clean up and snack duties; sanitize toys and spaces.
• Support safety and hygiene, toileting, hand washing, outdoor risk supervision, carpool, and recess.
• Collaborate with the team, participate in meetings and professional development.
