Job Summary:

Canterbury School in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a dynamic, joyful, and creative candidate to assist in our After-School ABC program for children aged between 2 and 5 years old. Working with the ABC Team, the Assistant will implement play and learning experiences in line with our school mission and goals, such as physical activity, creative projects, and open-ended play.

Responsibilities include:

• Create a warm, loving, and safe environment for young children
• Organize activities that allow children to learn about their world, have fun, explore their interests, and engage in open-ended play
• Encourage diversity by including all children and engaging in anti-bias practices
• Develop routines to ensure that children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime
• Perform general set up and clean up duties including assisting with snack; maintaining the sanitation of toys, materials, and the general surroundings
• Supervise and monitor the safety and general hygiene of children at the center; assist with toileting and changing diapers
• Keep records of children’s attendance, safety, and interests
• Communicate with families
• Collaborate with other team members

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• High School diploma, GED certificate, or passed an equivalency test
• Ability to interact and play with children at their physical level, indoors and outdoors in different weather
• Lifting children and moderately heavy objects

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

• One of the following: a current CDA credential; or an associates or bachelors degree in early childhood education or elementary education; or proof of enrollment in one of these programs
• Experience working in an early childhood setting, elementary school, or out-of-school program for children
