Description

Head Start programs prepare America’s most vulnerable young children to succeed in school and in life beyond school. The SIUE Head Start program currently has multiple Early Childhood Teacher vacancies for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The SIUE Head Start/Early Head Start Program is committed to engaging children and families with highly qualified staff who support achievement and create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. Teachers welcome children and families from diverse backgrounds, promote emotional/social growth, and provide a rigorous school readiness experience. Responsibilities include preparing instructional plans, individualizing instruction (including for children with special needs), managing classroom behavior, conducting developmental screenings, and participating in assessments, home visits, and parent-teacher conferences.

Head Start Teacher positions are nine-month, full-time roles serving children aged three to five years. Early Head Start Teacher positions are twelve-month, full-time roles serving children from six weeks to thirty-six months. Centers are located in Belleville, Cahokia, Caseyville, East St. Louis, Lebanon, and Lovejoy, Illinois, with final assignments based on program needs.

The program serves over 860 families and children, including those with special needs, across St. Clair County, offering comprehensive services such as health/dental screenings and family engagement activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Tier 1: Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Tier 2: Associate degree with coursework equivalent to a major in Early Childhood Education and at least two years of experience with infants/toddlers or preschool children
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching preschool-aged children
  • Experience working with diverse teams
  • Physical ability to perform floor exercises, walking, bending, kneeling
