Job Summary

The Children's School is a laboratory demonstration school for the Department of Early Childhood Studies at Sonoma State University. It is accredited by NAEYC and rated Tier 5 by Sonoma County Quality Counts. Reporting to the Director, the Early Education Teacher is responsible for creating a developmentally appropriate, inclusive educational environment, working with the Master Teacher and/or Director to plan and implement curriculum, collaborating with families, therapists, and supervising university students.

Key Qualifications

  • An associate's degree in child development; a bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education is highly preferred.
  • Completion of at least 24 units in child development or early childhood education if no degree, plus additional general education requirements.
  • Verification of submission of a Teacher Child Development Permit (or higher) issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Three years of teaching experience in early childhood settings, including one year with infants and toddlers, preferred.
  • Current certifications in Pediatric CPR and First Aid, and attendance at safety training including Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate curriculum planning, state and federal regulations, licensing, child abuse reporting, and health and sanitation codes.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to interpret policies, prioritize projects, and work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to lift children and equipment, work outdoors, and ensure child safety.
  • Ability to pass a background check and physical exam.

Salary and Benefits

The starting salary is up to $3,822 per month, depending on qualifications. Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement, paid holidays, and leave. A detailed benefits summary is available upon request.
