Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

The Child Care Education Program is operated by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies ( HDFS ), in the School of Health and Human Sciences at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. HDFS is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service regarding human development and close relationships across the lifespan. Our objectives are to educate the next generation of HDFS professionals and scholars, to generate new knowledge, and to foster the well-being of individuals and families in their everyday lives.
The Child Care Education Program at CCEP is made up of 3 campus-based child care centers and serves children ages 0-7. All centers hold North Carolina’s highest 5 star rating and are nationally accredited through NAEYC . Our observation-based curriculum for young children reflects the needs, interests, and abilities of the children in each classroom in all domains of development- social, emotional, cognitive and physical. Our philosophy is founded on the idea that learning occurs when children are actively involved and engaged in experiences that are age appropriate, individually appropriate and culturally appropriate. As a lab school, we have a large number of university students participating in the program where they practice skills on how to apply knowledge they gain from their courses.

Position Summary

The Teacher Assistant works in early education classrooms serving children between the ages of 0-5. This person may float from room to room as needed for support. This person assists the teacher with caregiving routines, activities, supervising groups of children indoors and outdoors as well as light housekeeping duties such as serving or cleaning after meals.
