Job Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the teachers and the director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for children and assisting in activities to enhance the quality of care and education. They must communicate effectively, listen, and work well in a team environment. Responsibilities include implementing educational programs, developing positive relationships with children and parents, observing and documenting children's interests and progress, and relaying this information to staff and parents. Teacher Assistants are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the guidance of the Classroom Lead Teacher and the Director of School Readiness.

Primary Duties
  1. Assist in planning and preparing learning activities and materials.
  2. Conduct learning activities and supervise children to ensure safety.
  3. Support children with personal activities such as eating, toileting, or diaper changing.
  4. Build positive relationships with parents and staff.
  5. Contribute to evaluating student performance.
  6. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment using approved techniques and understanding policies and procedures.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of student records and performance.
  8. Collaborate with personnel and consultants involved with students.
  9. Attend meetings and staff development activities.
  10. Adhere to all regulations regarding conduct and ethics.
Qualifications
  • Childhood Development (CDA) credential or equivalent, including 12 college credits in early childhood education or related fields.
  • 1-2 years of professional child care experience.
  • High energy and ability to work well with others.
  • Strong communication and basic computer skills.
  • Understanding of child development principles.
  • Leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Successful background check and health screening.
Preferred Skills
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills.
