Job Description
Title: Early Childhood Specialist TRAILS
Program: CCR&R
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Worksite: TBD
Classification: Full-time
Reports to: CCR&R Director
Position Summary: Responsible for providing specialized resources and support, including the Traveling Resource and Information Library System, to early childhood programs along with professional development opportunities.
Essential Functions
- Provide professional development and technical assistance for child care providers.
- Develop schedules for the van to ensure all areas of the CCR&R region are served.
- Implement outreach efforts to providers in the service delivery area.
- Provide resource lending services to early childhood providers.
- Share driving responsibilities of the TRAILS van.
- Maintain resource materials and supplies on the TRAILS van.
- Assist in maintaining computerized inventory of resources and supplies of the TRAILS van.
- Traverse various terrains to access visitation sites.
- Remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
Marginal Functions
- Utilize available technology to support professional development delivery.
- Participate in TRAILS/ITSN Infant/Toddler Initiative as directed by the Division of Early Care and Education.
- Submit requests for materials, supplies, and training resources.
- Support the initiation and continuation of provider networks and associations to improve quality of care.
- Compile and submit reports within established timelines.
- Respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
- Participate in all required committees, conferences, meetings, and training relevant to the program and/or agency.
- Participate in ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, elementary education, special education, or child development.
Experience
- Preferred: Experience with adult learners and training preparation.
Employment Conditions
- Successfully clear background checks, including criminal, education verification, references, drug testing, motor vehicle records, sex offender registry, Child Protective Services check, and federal grants debarred list.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle for a large percentage of the workday.
- Able to travel extensively; flexible scheduling, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Adhere to NAEYC Code of Ethics.
- Complete Family Child Care Environmental Rating Scale online training within six months of employment.
- Maintain STARS career pathway enrollment and trainer credential.
- Able to climb in and out of the TRAILS van.
- Business casual attire.
Environmental Conditions
- Indoors with minimal temperature variation, exposure to weather, and face-to-face interactions.
- Work at a fast pace with interruptions.
- Public contact position.
- Potential remote work up to two days per week after 90-day review.
Physical Demands
- Mobility within the office and moving from floor to floor.
- Use of computer and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Moving boxes and materials.
