Early Childhood Special Education Teacher/Coordinator

RSU 26 is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Special Education Teacher/Coordinator with Maine State Certification as a Teacher of Exceptional Students (282B) to develop our early childhood (3 & 4-year-olds) special education program. Responsibilities include evaluation, coordination, and delivery of services for identified students. Experience with children facing emotional, learning, developmental, and behavioral challenges is preferred. Some summer work is required.

The role involves ensuring compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regulations, providing Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to students aged 3-4 with disabilities, and educating within their Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Essential Requirements
  • Special Education Certification (282) (282B preferred; willingness to obtain 282B considered)
  • Knowledge of Maine Unified Special Education Regulations (MUSER)
  • Experience consulting on special education with teachers, providers, and families of young children
Essential Responsibilities
  • Coordinate screenings and evaluations to determine eligibility through Child Find and observe students during referral processes.
  • Assist IEP teams in developing instructional strategies, interventions, accommodations, and modifications for students within their LRE.
  • Complete Written Notices for IEP meetings, review IEPs for compliance, and oversee tracking systems and timelines for paperwork.
  • Support transition from Part C to Part B for incoming 3-year-olds and manage case responsibilities for students outside public school settings.
  • Coordinate scheduling and delivery of services with community providers and schools.
  • Implement specially designed instruction collaboratively with the student’s team.
  • Act as liaison among parents, teachers, service providers, and stakeholders to promote communication.
