Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for an Early Childhood Special Education LBS1 Resource Teacher. The goals of this position include creating a flexible ECSE program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for entering Kindergarten, in accordance with each student’s ability; and establishing positive relationships with parents and staff members. This position requires significant teaming and classroom management of children with a variety of disabilities and many adults who contribute to supporting the children’s needs.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Effectively implement the course of study that supports the students individual goals and objectives
- Effectively instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and regulations, and stated in district regulations, expectations, procedures, and standards of performance
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
- Responsible for writing and implementing the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) as the case manager, writing and grading students’ goals and objectives as part of the IEP
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best use the available time for instruction
- Effectively establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep and maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports as specified by the district
- Effectively communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress
- Identify students’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities, and meet the district’s policies for continuing university study
- Participate in the evaluation process with the appropriate administrator to improve performance according to the District’s evaluation plan
- Understands and seeks to provide for a variety of disabilities within a preschool program.
- Participate, as appropriate, in curriculum development programs
- Participate in faculty committees and student activities as appropriate
- Perform essential job functions without a direct threat to the health and safety of others.
- Report to the building administrator
Skills And Experience Required
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License required
- Early Childhood Education AND
- Early Childhood Special Education Approval OR
- LBS1 (K- age 21) w/ Early Childhood Special Education Approval OR
- Early Childhood Special Education Endorsement
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Student teaching and/or experience in a ECSE or Special Education classroom
- Maintains positive attitude, demonstrates flexibility and displays excellent interpersonal communication skills
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials
