Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher

Portland Public Schools: Early Childhood Special Education Position

Portland Public Schools’ seeks an innovative and passionate education professional to join our team to continue the forward progress by enhancing the education experience for our students. This position will begin with the 25/26 school year.

The desired candidate would possess the following attributes :

  • Ability to integrate technology into teaching and learning practices
  • Exceptional communication, analysis, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Understanding of, or demonstrated training in, PBIS and MTSS initiatives
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor
  • Impeccable character, a good sense of humor, and compassion for elementary school students, families, and staff
  • Willingness to undertake extra-curricular assignments

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications :

  • Possess a valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate with a special education and early childhood endorsement.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development to identify needs and develop interventions
  • Ability to conduct IEP meetings and complete IEP forms in conformance with the MI Special Education and MARSE and IDEA rules.
  • Ability to develop and sustain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to sustain and improve student achievement outcomes
  • Willingness to contribute to a safe school climate of high expectations and strong collaboration, high staff and student morale, and positive community involvement
  • Title: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher
  • Reports to: Director of Special Education and Elementary School Principal
  • Calendar: As per District Calendar and PEA contract
  • Compensation: In accordance with PEA contract
  • Letter of interest detailing the manner in which the candidate meets the qualifications and desired attributes for the position
