Permitted Substitute Teacher

Job Purpose: As a Permitted Substitute Teacher, you will deliver high‑quality Early Childhood Development services to preschool‑aged children, supporting their educational, social, physical, nutritional, and emotional growth. You will also engage with parents, maintain student records, and ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement daily lesson plans following curriculum guidelines
  • Supervise children during classroom and outdoor activities
  • Conduct developmental assessments and maintain records (manual & digital)
  • Prepare and serve meals; promote healthy hygiene habits (including diapering if needed)
  • Organize and lead educational and physical activities
  • Support parent‑teacher conferences and occasional home visits
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants and provide feedback
  • Travel to various school locations (minimum of 15 miles)
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as a preschool teacher, aide, or assistant (Head Start experience a plus)
  • Child Development Associate Teacher Permit or higher required
  • A.A. Degree or higher and 12+ ECE units highly preferred
  • 3 units in Infant/Toddler care preferred
  • CPR/First Aid certification
  • Strong knowledge of ECE theory, child development, and classroom management
  • Excellent observation, organizational, and communication skills
  • Valid CA Driver’s License & proof of insurance or reliable transportationDOJ fingerprint clearance (Livescan with CA Community Care Licensing)
  • Bilingual skills a plus
Special Requirements
  • TB test (within past 11 months) & health screen clearance
  • Immunizations: MMR, Tdap, Flu
  • COVID‑19 vaccination or approved exemption
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and meet physical demands of working with young children
