Job description

Raleigh Day School is welcoming applications for a warm, joyful and confident Early Childhood morning assistant/Aftercare teacher. This can be a full-time position or it can be split into two separate positions including a role as morning assistant and as an aftercare teacher.

Raleigh Day School is a thriving initiative now in our 5th year. We are located in the capital city of Raleigh, North Carolina with a community of dedicated parents and teachers. We currently serve students in Early Childhood - 5th Grade. Next year we will add a new first grade class and will advance our current 5th grade class to 6th grade; we will add a grade each year through grade 8. We are located on a beautiful 30-acre campus located in north Raleigh. Our Early Childhood program is implemented outdoors in the forest, on our playgrounds, and in tents.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with young children, possess enthusiasm and motivation to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and colleagues, and demonstrate a familiarity and interest in the philosophy and methods of Waldorf Early Childhood Education.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Working with integrity worthy of imitation
  • Helping to prepare healthy snacks
  • Maintaining general order and creating an aesthetically beautiful environment, including kitchen management
  • Engaging with students, taking direction from the Lead Teacher regarding classroom management, conflict resolution, communication, and day-to-day responsibilities
  • Assisting during all teacher-led activities
  • Overseeing children in the play yard and in the forest
  • Assisting children with transitions
  • Guiding children with self-care (toileting, dressing, daily routines)
  • Providing First Aid as necessary
  • Maintaining a quiet, peaceful environment during the rest period
  • Handing off children who are dismissed at 2:00 to the dismissal teacher and helping those who are staying for extended care to use the bathroom and prepare for snack
  • Receiving the grade school children who will join extended aftercare, supervising snack
  • Supervising children cleaning up their snack space
  • Supervising play from 2:30-5:00 for all children in the extended care program
  • Releasing children to their parents/guardians at pick-up
  • Making observations of children to share with teachers, including social engagements and behaviors of concern

Hours: Morning Assistant 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Aftercare Teacher 1:30-5:00

Raleigh Day School EC teacher will provide mentoring and guidance in her expectations for the TA role.
