The Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all New Yorkers. In partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, FPHNYC incubates innovative public health initiatives to advance community health, develop partnerships, and support rapid implementation of successful pilot programs across NYC.

Program Overview

The Enhancing Quality in Childcare through Developmental Screening (EQCCDS) aims to increase developmental screenings in non-DOE childcare programs in Brooklyn and Queens, focusing on low referral rates to Early Intervention. The project seeks to:

  • Integrate developmental screenings into childcare procedures to improve program quality.
  • Identify children with potential delays and facilitate access to early intervention services.
  • Promote racial equity in developmental delay identification and service receipt among children aged birth to five in NYC.
Position Overview

Reporting to the BEI Quality Child Care (QCC) Director, the EI-Early Childhood Education Specialist (EI-ECES) conducts professional development, coaching, and technical assistance to childcare programs. Responsibilities include training on developmental screenings, trauma-informed communication, inclusion practices, and collaboration with programs and data collection for referral tracking.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a liaison to childcare centers for integrating developmental screenings.
  • Deliver in-person and virtual trainings.
  • Provide coaching and technical support on early childhood development, screenings, and referrals.
  • Manage caseloads and documentation.
  • Build positive relationships with programs and staff.
  • Organize and document data and findings.
  • Transport materials and travel to childcare centers.
  • Coordinate with NYC Health Department and FPHNYC staff.
Qualifications
  • Experience with early childhood programs and developmental screenings preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • Passion for health equity and social justice.
  • Understanding of developmental screening tools.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and technology skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple relationships.
  • Willingness to travel and carry equipment (up to 15 lbs).
  • Experience with data management and customer service.
  • Experience with volunteer management preferred.
Salary

$65,000 annually

Work Schedule

9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, in-office/remote options
