Job summary

Job description

Flint Community Schools, an urban public school system with campuses throughout the City of Flint, Michigan, has a long and rich tradition of community education. Flint Community Schools provide a range of academic, extended services, and extracurricular activities at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of our students and their families.

Essential Functions :

  1. Comply with all Michigan Special Education law / requirements.
  2. Provide special education services as indicated on the Individual Educational Plan.
  3. Collect, record, and report data relative to student performance on individual goals and objectives.
  4. Conduct required formal and informal evaluations to measure students' progress.
  5. Collaborate in the development of Evaluation / Review Plans.
  6. Actively participate in the CIMS process, including implementing any required corrective actions.
  7. Comply with state and district policy on the use of seclusion and restraint.
  8. Participate in transition planning.
  9. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  10. Participate in building Student Assistance Teams.
  11. Participate in ECD Program meetings.
  12. Participate in Early Childhood professional development training.
  13. Complete Medicaid documentation monthly.
  14. Utilize a variety of research-based intervention strategies, continually assessing student response, and modify as needed to ensure all children are successful.
  15. Develop and implement Positive Behavior Support Plans.
  16. Work collaboratively with school initiatives that support intervention strategies for student success.
  17. Conference with parents, therapists, and other medical/agency personnel.

Qualifications :

Education : Valid Michigan Teachers Certificate with a ZS endorsement, valid Michigan Teachers Certificate with a ZA endorsement plus an endorsement in at least one area of special education.

Experience and Skills :

  • The ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students through speaking, reading, and writing appropriate for the audience.
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, Email, and online grading.
  • Knowledge of common assessments and teaching methods.
