YM & YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood is seeking a part-time preschool counselor to support learning and social development in the classroom. You will work directly with children, help set up and clean up activities, and assist the teaching team to help children learn and grow.

Hours are 8:00am–1:00pm or 1:00pm–5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with a pay rate of $18 per hour. The role emphasizes safety, nurturing support, and collaborative teamwork.

Essential Functions

• Work directly with students to support and enhance their learning within the classroom.
• Set up and clean-up activities within the classroom learning centers.
• Support children’s emotional and social growth by helping to foster a warm and nurturing environment.
• Ensure the safety of the children in the program by helping children with routines and schedules.
• Support the teachers by working with them to optimize the smooth running of the classroom.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young children in a group setting.
• The ability to work within a team approach.
• Skills in art, theater, music and literacy a plus.
• Positive job skills such as punctuality, dependence and reliability.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

• Part-time position.
• Monday - Friday.
• Usual hours: 8:00am to 1:00pm OR 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Compensation

• Pay rate at $18 per hour.

Work Authorization & Clearances

• Documentation of U.S. citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S.
• Must pass the background check, medical form and fingerprinting through the Departments of Health and Education.
