Description

POSITION TITLE: EARLY CHILDHOOD COACH

REPORTS TO: EDUCATION COORDINATOR

HOURLY RATE: $26.76

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Carry out goals and objectives, policies, and other activities designed to implement educational objectives and Head Start/Early Head Start Performance Standards. Organizes and coordinates the program's education services effort, which includes, but is not limited to: on-the-job guidance, coaching, training, and technical assistance to classroom teaching staff and home visitors, recruitment, transition, enrollment, disabilities, individualization and all provisions for service related to the implementation of developmentally appropriate early childhood education experiences.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Utilize the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Head Start Act, the Early Childhood Standards of Quality, and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework to ensure programs requirements are met.
  2. Build relationships with education staff based on mutual respect.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication skills, practice conflict resolution skills, have an ongoing commitment to learning; possess good observation skills, model best practices working with young children.
  4. Ensure that education staff is utilizing all assessment tools and data for providing developmentally appropriate home visits through observation using the program home based assessment tools.
  5. Provide coaching to the education staff that supports their professional skill development to help them gain knowledge they need to provide high quality services to children and families. Provide assigned education staff with professional and relationship based coaching using the Practice Based Coaching model.
  6. Regularly retrieve and review data with the education staff to inform and improve opportunities for children and families.
  7. Follow the Practice Based Coaching Model for observation schedule/reflection cycle when observing/monitoring education staff.
  8. Check in with education staff on a regular basis to offer support and guidance.
  9. Provide and facilitate training opportunities for staff based on Professional Development Plans and Needs Assessment.
  10. Enter data in Child Plus.
  11. Mentor new education staff, as needed.
  12. Review PD Plans and Needs Assessments to ensure coaching needs are met. Maintain Outlook calendar to accurately reflect weekly activities.
  13. Travel to all four counties, as needed, to provide coaching model. Meet on a regular basis with the education team.
  14. Accurately complete required program documentation and record keeping in a neat and timely manner.
  15. Work collaboratively with the education team to make sure all areas of service are in compliance and continually improving.
  16. Participate in personal and professional development activities, including staff meetings, conferences, training opportunities, as identified and approved by supervisors.
  17. Attend community events and meetings to support the agency programs; including evening and weekend events/meetings.
  18. Support classroom coverage needs when necessary.
  19. Possess a solid knowledge base with respect to child development and family services and seek to expand knowledge at every opportunity.
  20. Complete additional certifications as required.

Maintain confidentiality and code of ethics at all times.

  • Must have proficient computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet).
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills, and be able to work effectively with people.
  • Must be self-directed and able to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Must possess the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in order to deliver desired outcomes within allocated time frames.
  • Must be willing to accept new challenges.
  • The ability to navigate and effectively resolve conflict.

Understand the importance of daily work attendance, and its impact on coworkers, clients, and the agency.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development (or closely related field), or equivalent coursework required.
  2. Minimum of at least five years of experience working with infants, toddler and pre-school children.
  3. Management experience required.
  4. Must have the ability to aggregate data pertaining to the progress of child outcomes and teacher/child interactions and provide strategies to improve these areas.
  5. Must have the capability to provide training to teaching personnel and parents, age appropriate curricula and provide educational resources for staff and parents. Is responsible for classroom and educational requirements of the program.
  6. Must possess strong leadership skills, good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, receive and provide feedback and provide training to other employees and parents.
  7. Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  8. Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on computer for prolonged periods of time up to 75% of the time.
  9. Travel required. Must have valid driver's license.
