Early Childhood Classroom Teacher - Rhode Island School for the Deaf

Functions and Responsibilities

The candidate must have knowledge and respect for the cultural norms and language of the Deaf community. Responsibilities include creating and delivering a curriculum that fosters a positive learning environment with both rigor and relevance. The teacher will plan, develop, and execute lesson plans, providing instruction tailored to individual students, small groups, and remedial needs. Assessment of student learning through various formal and informal methods is essential, along with applying best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Services also include preparing and correcting examinations, proctoring, substituting, and participating in conferences with students and parents. The role involves guiding students individually, serving on school committees, and participating in professional development to stay current in teaching fields and remote learning delivery. The teacher is expected to provide synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction as directed, participate in the IEP process, and manage attendance and grading systems on the school platform. Communication with students, staff, parents, and the community regarding policies and programs is required. The role also involves participating in PLCs, orientation, and using student data for decision-making, curriculum development, and targeted instruction. The teacher will assist in creating and presenting reports, determining curricular and assessment materials needs, and communicating these needs to the Principal. Additional related duties may be assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
