Job summary

Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools seeks a part-time GSRP Classroom Support Staff to assist Lead and Associate Teachers in a high-quality learning environment. Responsibilities include supporting instructional activities, student supervision, health and safety, and collaboration with families and staff.

The role requires flexibility, communication skills, and adherence to district procedures. 16–20 hours weekly for 30 weeks per year with a $12.48/hour rate through GECS.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework in Child Development or Preschool CDA preferred.
  • Experience in childcare or education program with toddlers preferred.
  • Experience with children with disabilities preferred.
  • Successful criminal history, national sex offender and childcare licensing checks.
  • Effective communications skills.
  • Use district technology and maintain proficiency as required.
  • Represent the district in a professional manner at all times, including following the dress code.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with families, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Follow district health and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate physical stamina necessary for assisting young children.
  • Repetitive stooping, squatting, bending, lifting, walking, kneeling and reaching while maintaining personal balance and stability required.
  • Implement established behavior improvement intervention plans.
  • Ability to work flexible workdays, work week, and work year.
  • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to maintain a calm, poised, and professional image.
  • Exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
  • Work successfully as a member of a team.
  • TB test required.
  • Warm and fair attitude toward children.
  • Ability to exercise tact and good judgment.
  • Be available for professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Provides program support in instructional and related activities in the GSRP classrooms.
  • Follows all regulations pertaining to the GSRP Implementation Manual, Michigan Childcare Licensing and CACFP or School Lunch Program.
  • Engages with all students in a way that promotes positive interaction, development of vocabulary and expressive language.
  • Assists in classroom management using MTSS and other non-instructional functions.
  • Assists with the implementation of instructional activities based on student goals and objectives as written in the IEP for students with disabilities.
  • Engages in outdoor experiences in accordance with Michigan’s Childcare Licensing Rules.
  • Assists students with health and physical needs and personal care routines including toilet training, diapering, and eating.
  • Assists with meals, planned activities, outdoor experiences and other activities, as required.
  • Works as a team with the Lead and Associate teachers to plan activities in the classroom, large motor area, and playground.
  • Understands and implements MTSS strategies consistently when challenging student behavior.
  • Actively supervises students at all times using supervision strategies.
  • Assists with health and safety protocols to keep children from harm.
  • Uses assigned computer applications to document attendance, meal counts, communication, etc.
  • Documents attendance, meal counts, communication, etc.
  • Participates in home visits and parent teacher conferences when appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff members to support students and families.
  • Conforms to Carman-Ainsworth’s Standards of Conduct.
  • Participates in staff meetings, professional development activities, and other training (virtual and in-person).
  • Completes virtual training within the designated time frame.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students, families, co-workers and workplace.
  • Uses technology to communicate with staff.
  • Assists in preparing student displays, duplicating materials and other material preparation activities.
  • Operates standard school equipment (laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.).
  • Follows policies and procedures of the school district when applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
