San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) is proud to offer education to children as young as 9 months through 12th grade. We are seeking mature, energetic, positive and caring team players with a heart for children to join our ECC team on a full-time, part-time, or temporary basis. We are looking for a full range of applicants to fill positions for experienced teachers, assistant teachers, and substitutes. If you are ready to find a home away from home and have a part in co-creating an amazing work family, we encourage you to apply. This is an exciting time to join the team at SDJA due to school growth, and we hope you can join us in taking the SDJA Early Childhood Center to the next level!

You will be kept busy with:

  • Developing/implementing approved lesson plans and daily classroom schedules in accordance with SDJA curriculum and programming (Teachers)
  • Weekly Newsletters (Teachers)
  • Supervising and interacting with children by providing verbal recognition and acceptance to children while providing clear and consistent expectations for children’s behavior
  • Assessing each child’s developmental needs on a regular, ongoing basis
  • Assisting children with their basic needs in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment
  • Communicating with parents
  • Compliance with all rules and regulations for SDJA’s ECC, including local, state and national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children - ensuring that SDJA’s ECC meets or exceeds governing regulations
  • Accepting responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds to include cleaning and disinfecting as needed - an attractive, well-kept classroom encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence
  • Attending staff meetings, workshops, and/or school functions
  • Assisting with the daily operations of the ECC as directed
  • Demonstrating warmth and patience towards children, parents, and colleagues
  • Working collaboratively and effectively with others with the ability not to take yourself (or others) too seriously; you know when to have fun and when to be serious
  • Reading, writing and communicating effectively in English
  • Managing priorities and maintaining confidentiality
  • Being flexible and remaining positive when things don’t go as planned by focusing on innovative solutions - you’re a problem solver!
  • Meeting and exceeding safety standards - you play by the rules and expect others to, as well

You bring this to the table:

  • A passion for, and knowledge of, the social, emotional and creative needs of young children
  • Six months’ experience working with children, preferably in a licensed childcare facility
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with staff, infants and toddlers, parents and families
  • Ability to work with cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and equipment
  • Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient mobility, strength and full range of body motion for: sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, reaching, stooping, using smell and touch, working outside and vision and hearing
