Job summary

Apploi's Early Childhood Center in Portsmouth, VA seeks a warm, flexible assistant teacher to support the lead teacher, implement activities, and help maintain routines across ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

This full-time role focuses on classroom safety, one-on-one attention, parent communication, and adherence to health and sanitation standards, with cross-classroom assignments across the ECC program.

Key Job Responsibilities for an Assistant Teacher Include:

Seeking a warm, flexible, team player who will serve as an assistant in our Early Childhood Center.

The ideal candidate will bring positivity and love to our Early Childhood Center.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assist the lead teacher in implementing activities and maintaining routines
• Ensure student and classroom safety at all times
• Provide one‑on‑one attention to children as needed
• Support transitions between activities and routines
• Observe and report any concerns about children’s development or behavior to the lead teacher
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, and sanitation standards
• Maintain positive relationships and communication with parents and staff

Shared Responsibilities:

• Diapering and feeding.
• Logging naps, feeding, and diaper changes.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the daycare room.

Essential Duties include the ability to work in, and be assigned to, any ECC classroom across the program's full age range (6 weeks to age 5), as staffing ratios, enrollment, and program needs require. Cross-classroom assignment is a regular and ongoing part of this role, not an exception.

This position is Full Time.
