Job summary

Nova Southwestern University is seeking a part-time Childcare Assistant for NSU University School Preschool in Fort Lauderdale. The role focuses on providing developmentally appropriate social/emotional and learning experiences for young children, with parent involvement and a collaborative learning environment.

Responsibilities include supporting a classroom, implementing curricula, supervising children during key times, preparing materials, and acting as a substitute teacher when needed.

Qualifications

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Punctual and reliable.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• FDLE Background Screening required.
• Employees who do not have a completed degree (Associates or higher) in Early Childhood Education or related field must complete within ninety (90) days of hire a CDA (Child Development Associate) or CDA equivalent.
• Must complete within ninety (90) days of hire the state mandated Early Literacy for Children Birth to Three childcare trainings (5-hour course).

Responsibilities

• Provides nurturing and assistance to children in the classroom to ensure an enriching, safe, and clean classroom and playground environment.
• Assists in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum to ensure a stimulating learning experience.
• Supervises children during arrival, dismissal, playground time and lunch to ensure children are safe and accounted for at all times.
• Communicates with parents, coordinators and other primary care givers to ensure a positive, participating environment.
• Serves as a substitute teacher to ensure that assistance and support are provided to the students at all times.
• Prepares classroom learning materials and displays to ensure appropriate learning support materials are available at all times.
• Monitors and coordinates activities to provide children with an enhanced learning experience.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
