Responsibilities

  • Support sediment investigation and remediation projects, including field sampling of sediment, surface water, porewater, groundwater, and soil.
  • Conduct fieldwork including soil, surface water, sediment, porewater, and groundwater sampling, geotechnical drilling, contractor oversight, QA/QC, and remediation system O&M.
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, ecologists, and other technical specialists on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support planning and implementation of sediment assessments, RI, feasibility studies, and remediation designs.
  • Assist with dredging, capping, habitat restoration, and other remediation design and implementation projects.

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early Career Environmental Engineer to join our Sediment Site Assessment and Remediation Practice in the Raleigh, North Carolina office. The opportunity to work a hybrid schedule may be available at the discretion of the Company.

In this role, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, scientists, and sediment specialists on a variety of projects involving sediment investigation, environmental characterization, risk assessment, and remedial design. You will support field programs, data collection and analysis, remedial evaluations and design, technical reporting, permitting efforts, and construction oversight for projects at industrial, riverine, lacustrine, coastal, and waterfront sites. This position is ideal for a motivated early career professional seeking hands‑on experience and opportunities to develop a broad range of technical expertise while contributing to meaningful environmental restoration and remediation projects. You will work closely with project teams throughout all phases of project execution, from site assessment and investigation through remedy design, implementation, and long‑term monitoring. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support sediment investigation and remediation projects, including field sampling of sediment, surface water, porewater, groundwater, and soil.
  • Conduct fieldwork including but not limited to soil, surface water, sediment, porewater, and groundwater sampling, geotechnical drilling, contractor oversight, construction quality assurance, and remediation system O&M
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, ecologists, and other technical specialists on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Support planning and implementation of sediment assessments, remedial investigation, feasibility studies, and remedial designs.
  • Support dredging, capping, habitat restoration, and other remediation design and implementation projects. Assist with the evaluation of remedial alternatives, including dredging, capping, monitored natural recovery, and emerging sediment treatment technologies.
  • Support long‑term monitoring programs to evaluate remedy performance and environmental recovery.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, laboratories, and field crews to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Prepare cost estimations, including but not limited to preparing bid packages and solicitating bids from contractors.
  • Assist with environmental permitting and regulatory coordination with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Prepare and provide peer review of technical reports, memoranda, letters, plans, permit applications, specifications, and proposals.
  • Assist with environmental data management, analysis, and interpretation, including preparing maps, tables, and figures.
  • Apply GIS, CAD, database management, and data visualization tools to support project analyses and communication of results.
  • Comply with company health, safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Drive company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
  • As career progresses:
    • Participate in project meetings, client interactions, technical discussions, and presentations.
    • Grow into project management roles and demonstrate technical proficiency to support project objectives.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or a related field (required)
  • Advanced degree in a related field (preferred)
  • Professional development towardprofessional registration (i.e. EIT) (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting, site investigation, remediation; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (preferred)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills (required)
  • Ability and willingness to travel periodically for field assignments (may include overnight travel) (required)
  • Ability to complete Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing as needed (required)
  • Ability to drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed (required)
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
