Job summary

McGuireWoods LLP in Richmond, VA, seeks a Staff Attorney to join its Commercial Litigation Department and manage e‑discovery from start to finish. You will coordinate with case teams, vendors, and document reviewers to ensure an efficient process that supports litigation strategy.

The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of top‑tier law firm experience, Virginia State Bar membership, and strong writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in a top 100 law firm setting.
• Proficiency with Relativity and other e‑discovery review platforms; experience managing e‑discovery projects is a plus.
• Strong academic record with excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and legal teams.
• Virginia State Bar membership required.

Responsibilities

• Steer the discovery of cases from start to finish, coordinating with case teams and clients.
• Serve as liaison between case teams, Litigation Support, document reviewers, vendors, and the client.
• Understand the substantive and strategic aspects of litigation to guide discovery operations.
• Own the discovery process, planning, collection, processing, review, and production including depositions and motions.
• Define budgets, goals, and objectives in collaboration with the team and vendors.
• Supervise contract reviewers or services and ensure instructions are followed.
• Keep the team informed of progress and estimated costs/timetables.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000

Key Responsibilities:

• Steer the logistics of discovery from start to finish, establishing a transparent and trustworthy process for the case team and the client.
• Serve as a liaison between case teams, Litigation Support, contract document reviewers or document review services, trial services, the client, and vendors.
• Understand both the substantive and strategic aspects of the litigation to effectively guide discovery operations.
• Take ownership of the discovery process, shepherding projects through planning, collection, processing, review, and production, including the ultimate use of productions in depositions, motions practice, and trial.
• Help determine, document, and execute project planning, scheduling, and technical requirements, including defining budgets, goals, and objectives in collaboration with the case team, client, Litigation Support, and vendors.
• Supervise contract document reviewers or document review services and vendors and ensure case team instructions are followed and expectations are met.
• Keep the case team abreast of progress during discovery operations, reporting on work accomplished, work remaining, and estimated costs and timetables for completion.
• Assist the case team in developing the facts of the case, interviewing witnesses, and transferring relevant information to the document review team.
• Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to the unexpected, navigate difficult deadlines, and manage the many internal and external participants in the process.

Required Qualifications:
