The E-Discovery Division of the NYC Law Department is seeking applicants for the position of Project Manager ACC. The E-Discovery Division consists of attorneys, project managers and e-discovery analysts who work with case teams and agency counsel to meet the Law Department's e-discovery needs. Its members provide legal and technical guidance and services to assist in all aspects of e-discovery – helping to develop strategy, implement legal holds, collect and process electronic data, set up document reviews, apply advanced analytical tools and run document productions. They also help during negotiations with opposing counsel, at court conferences, drafting papers, and wherever their expertise in e-discovery and the governing law and rules may be helpful.
The Project Manager position consists primarily of project management and technical work, rather than legal work. The E-Discovery Project Manager will support Law Department attorneys as they respond to requests for production in litigations, Freedom of Information Law requests, civil investigative demands, subpoenas, and other document demands. The E-Discovery Project Manager will work closely with Law Department case teams, other members of the E-Discovery Division, and outside service providers to develop and implement strategies to effectively handle data from collection through final review and production. The E-Discovery Project Manager will engage in hands‑on management of collecting, processing, loading, reviewing, and producing electronic data and images to and from various e-discovery platforms.
The E-Discovery Project Manager position requires a deep understanding of e-discovery principles, practices, and technologies. Applicants must have experience supporting and guiding attorneys through all steps of the e-discovery process from collection through final review and production. Applicants must have extensive experience with Relativity, technology assisted review workflows, and various tools and technologies used to collect, process, convert, review, search, and produce electronically stored information. Applicants must also have advanced skills in databases, spreadsheets, and text editing tools and should have experience with mobile device discovery.
The role is particularly suited for attorneys seeking meaningful public service, particularly with regard to the management and collection of critical litigation documents.
The Law Department sets salaries for new attorneys based on their post law school legal experience, which typically aligns with their law school graduation year.
Candidates with highly specialized experience may qualify for salaries slightly above these ranges when a role requires such expertise or the position is considered hard to fill.
Following orientation, attorneys may elect to participate in one of two remote work programs:
The E-Discovery Division is dedicated to providing outstanding legal advocacy. Accordingly, applicants must have at least three years of litigation support or e-discovery experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school. Applicants must also be admitted and in good standing with the NY Bar. The ideal applicant will possess superior analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills and be enthusiastic about learning new e-discovery technologies and workflows. Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills are critical as data is secured and exchanged with appropriate parties in a legally defensible manner. E-Discovery Project Managers must be able to handle multiple concurrent projects, have excellent time management skills, be able to work independently, keep detailed records of tasks, provide outstanding customer support and training, provide clear and concise specifications/instructions to case teams and service providers, and be able to troubleshoot e-discovery issues that may arise. Candidates must possess a commitment to public service and the Law Department values of excellence, dedication, diversity, integrity, justice, professional development, respect, supportive work environment, and teamwork.
