Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Software Engineer - Anchor to lead development of the eCommerce microservices platform using Java and cloud-native stack. You will design and implement scalable front-end and backend microservices to support the company’s business requirements.

You will collaborate with Ford IT and business teams, drive value with product owners, and ensure high availability and performance of distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of IT experience.
• 5+ years of experience developing scalable, secure RESTful services using Java and Spring Framework.
• 3+ years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, security and compliance tools, and automated testing (TDD/BDD).
• 2+ years of cloud technologies (GCP or AWS) and near-real-time integrations (Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• 1+ year of Python-based data pipelines and AI workflow automation.

Responsibilities

• Be part of a software engineering team and provide technical support throughout the SDLC.
• Analyze, design, develop, and implement high-quality testable code meeting requirements.
• Engineer reusable distributed systems ensuring high availability, scalability and fault tolerance.
• Review design and provide Ford-specific support to system integrators.
• Deliver engineering design and system information flow documentation for work streams.
• Collaborate with product owners to identify project value and metrics.
• Drive product owners on value prioritization and assumptions.

In this position...

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer - Anchor to lead the development of our eCommerce microservices platform using a combination of open-source frameworks (Java) + Cloud native technology stack. As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable front end and backend microservices architecture that will support the company's business requirements.

What you’ll do….

• Be part of a team of software engineering team and provide technical support throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Analyze, design, develop, and implement high-quality testable code that meets business requirements while adhering to industry best practices and standards.

• Engineer reusable complex distributed systems and work closely with enterprise Ford IT teams to ensure the platform is highly available, scalable, and fault tolerant.

• Review technical design and provide Ford-specific support to system integrators.

• Deliver engineering design and system information flow documentation supporting functional work streams.

• Work with product owners to identify project business value and associated metrics.

• Drive and challenge product owners on their assumptions and prioritizations of business value.

• Collaborate with system integrators, Ford IT, and Business teams and meet the enterprise objectives.

You’ll have….

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, with 5+ years of IT experience.

• 5+ years of experience developing scalable, secure RESTful services using Java and Spring Framework to support e-commerce applications and digital customer experiences.

• 3+ years of experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, security and compliance tools, and automated testing practices (TDD/BDD), using tools such as Jenkins, Tekton, SonarQube, or equivalent.

• 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (GCP or AWS), plus hands-on experience with near-real-time integrations using Kafka, Pub/Sub, or similar technologies and databases such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB.

• 1+ year of experience developing Python-based data pipelines and leveraging AI development tools to automate workflows, support agentic AI capabilities, and improve engineering productivity.

Even better, you may have….

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

• 1+ year of experience developing, deploying, and monitoring cloud-native applications using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services and technologies.

• 2+ years of domain and technical expertise in large-scale e-commerce implementations, including scalable applications, system integrations, and digital customer experiences.

• 1+ year of experience developing and maintaining React-based web applications with a focus on performance, scalability, and user experience.

• Relevant certifications in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Java, or Artificial Intelligence (AI), demonstrating technical proficiency and a commitment to continuous learning.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $99,600-$166,600.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
