Job summary

  • Troubleshooting and scheduling electrical maintenance for the assigned location.
  • Work with project managers, engineers and contractors on all new construction projects.
  • Supervise electrical contractors.

Job description

What We Are Looking For
Primary Purpose:

Responsible for safe troubleshooting, installation, repair and operation of mechanical, electrical and instrument equipment.

What You Will Do
  • Advanced knowledge and capabilities of troubleshooting and repairing IO cards associated with PLC’s.
  • Working knowledge of HMI’s: Wonderware and AB.
  • Able to get online with Allen Bradley PLC and use it as a troubleshooting tool.
  • Understanding of Instrumentation and Controls used on the following type of units: CATS, Waukesha, Superior, Solar Turbines, GE Turbines, Ariel Compressors and Solar EMD units.
  • Able to troubleshoot instruments such as: Pressure/temperature/DP/Level transmitters, relays, starters, RTD's, thermocouples, control valves and gas actuated valves.
  • Able to use such test instruments such as: Fluke meters, Fluke process calibrators, meggers, IR guns, HART communicators.
  • Good understanding of communication protocols such as Ethernet IP and modbus.
  • Good understanding of instrumentation and controls on reboilers, contact towers and glycol systems.
  • Good understanding of MCC, Switchgear, VFD drives and working on voltages from 24VDC and 120VAC -13.8 KV AC.
  • Working knowledge of UPS Systems.
  • Working knowledge of air compressor systems.
  • Working knowledge of generators.
  • Maintains sufficient inventory of electrical supplies and repair parts to meet most emergency situations.
  • Take care of company vehicle, keeping it clean and organized.
  • Reports any unsafe practices or actions to supervisor.
  • Continue to look for better and more efficient ways of doing job.
  • Keeps lines of communication open to supervisor and other company employees while meeting the needs of all customers.
  • Able to work in a callout rotation.
  • Works with project managers, engineers and contractors on all new construction projects.
  • Troubleshooting and scheduling electrical maintenance for the assigned location.
  • Knowledge of electrical prints and capable of making appropriate red–line changes to them.
  • Work with peers and Automation and Controls techs.
  • Supervise electrical contractors.
  • Job level will be commensurate with experience and knowledge
What You Need
Education:
  • Applied Associate Degree in Instrumentation
Experience/specific knowledge:
  • General knowledge of compressor stations, gathering systems, and processing plant operations.
Certifications, licenses, registrations:
  • Valid operating license with acceptable driving record under company insurers.
Competencies, skills, and abilities:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer orientation.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situation to other employees of the company and outside contractors.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Intermediate skills working with Microsoft office.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out day-to-day operation issues.
  • Be able to make quick and reasonable decisions in sometimes adverse conditions.
Physical demands:
  • Uses physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment/tools.
  • Climbs and works at various heights. May work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position.
  • Routinely reacts to visual, aural and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work.
  • Regularly bends, stoops, moves from ground level to higher levels, raises/lifts from ground level a load up to 50 lbs., manually transports a load up to 75 lbs., and applies up to 150-foot pounds of torque.
  • Regularly gets into and out of vehicles and rides over rough roads.
  • Candidates may be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing requirements,
  • Subject to overtime and callouts
Working conditions:
  • Works mostly outdoors, in and around mechanical, industrial and electrical equipment.
  • Required to climb about equipment and work in confined areas (i.e. tanks, between compressors, vessels).
  • May be subject to work in hazardous conditions including hydrocarbon vapor, adverse weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.
  • Wears safety equipment as required.

Preferred education, experience, certifications, competencies, skills, and abilities:
  • AAS in instrumentation
