The Aircraft Mechanic troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition. Maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. Receives technical guidance from supervisor or higher-level technician, and may occasionally lead teams through complex aircraft tasks.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair aircraft components such as flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts.
- Replace or repair worn/damaged components like carburetors, alternators, magnetos, fuel controls, pumps, and gearboxes using hand tools and testing equipment. Remove, disassemble, inspect, repair, and reinstall engines.
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring and aircraft accessories. Conduct preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight inspections. Perform routine servicing like flushing crankcases, cleaning filters, greasing, and checking brakes.
- Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions.
- Use technical documentation to solve moderate to complex problems.
- Supervise aircraft jacking and towing, verify work quality, and perform line repairs to keep aircraft safe. May specialize in structural, spare parts, or engine repairs.
- Make entries in aircraft logs/records. Prioritize workload to meet schedules.
- Comply with all applicable aircraft maintenance standards and procedures.
- Maintain knowledge of technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS applications.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for aircraft mechanical components.
- Knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
- Knowledge of corrosion control and hazardous waste procedures.
- Valid US driver's license and ability to read/interpret data.
- Proficiency in English communication.
- Ability to obtain a flight line driver’s license and security clearance.
Experience & Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of aircraft structural repair courses.
- 2-4 years recent experience with E-2C/D aircraft; 4 years preferred.
Physical Requirements & Environment:
- Work may be in hangar or outside, in various weather conditions.
- May be exposed to noise, fumes, electrical hazards, and moving parts.
- Must be able to walk, climb, crouch, lift up to 50 lbs, and operate tools and vehicles.
