Job Description
The Aircraft Mechanic troubleshoots malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems to ensure aircraft remains in safe operating condition. Maintains, repairs, and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty. Receives technical guidance from supervisors or higher-level technicians and may lead teams through complex tasks.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components.
- Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; disassembles and inspects engine parts; repairs or replaces defective parts; reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
- Adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; performs preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight inspections; services aircraft as needed.
- Uses technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose malfunctions.
- Restores equipment condition and operation using technical expertise.
- Interprets technical documentation such as blueprints or manuals to solve problems.
- Supervises aircraft jacking and towing; verifies work; may service engines and airframe components at line stations; may specialize in structural, engine repair, or modifications.
- Makes entries in aircraft logs and records; prioritizes workload to meet schedules.
- Complies with all applicable aircraft maintenance regulations and uses technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS applications.

Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and parts replacement.
- Knowledge of sheet metal/structural modifications and repairs.
- Basic electrical theory knowledge.
- Familiarity with aircraft tools and technical publications.
- Ability to prioritize workload and handle hazardous materials properly.
- Understanding of aircraft sub-systems and maintenance parameters.
- Valid US driver’s license, ability to interpret data, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to obtain a government flight line driver’s license and security clearance.
Experience & Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair.
- 2-4 years recent experience in repair, modification, and overhaul of the E-2C/D aircraft; 4 years preferred.
Physical & Work Environment
- Work may be in hangars or outside, exposed to extreme weather, noise, fumes, and mechanical hazards.
- Must be able to walk, climb, crouch, lift up to 50 pounds, and operate various tools and equipment.
