Job summary

The Saint Louis Zoo in St. Louis, Missouri seeks a Zoological Manager of Herpetology & Aquatics to lead day-to-day operations of Caribbean Cove, supervise a large keeper team, and advance conservation and guest engagement initiatives.

The role requires strong expertise in elasmobranchs and aquatic systems, a bachelor’s degree, and proven leadership with ambassador animal programs; flexibility for after-hours and events is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; animal-related field preferred.
• Minimum five years aquatics management experience in a zoological setting; elasmobranchs preferred.
• Experience managing ambassador animal programs and interactive guest experiences.
• Ability to supervise large diverse teams and coordinate schedules.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of Caribbean Cove habitat (sharks and rays) and supervise keeper staff.
• Oversee water quality, life support, and ambassador animal programs; ensure welfare and safety.
• Coordinate with Guest Experience for tours, education programs, and guest experiences.
• Assist in Hellbender Conservation initiatives and collaboration with external partners.
• Develop and manage department budgets, procurement, and capital projects.
• Recruit, mentor, and train staff and interns; ensure safety and guest engagement.
