Job summary

Thayer Academy seeks a Substitute Teacher to cover Middle and Upper School classes in Braintree, MA. This position requires reliable availability from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional extended hours.

A Bachelor’s degree and classroom experience are preferred, with commitment to inclusivity and effective communication with families. The role involves executing lessons, creating plans when needed, maintaining a safe classroom, and reporting updates to absent teachers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred).
• Experience teaching middle school and/or high school students.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive community.
• Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and their impact on classroom climate.
• High comfort with a student information system and Google Suites.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and families.
• Flexible schedule with high availability.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain maximum availability to accept assignments.
• Execute lesson plans consistent with teacher guidelines and curriculum.
• Create a lesson plan if none is available.
• Establish a safe and welcoming classroom environment and provide a positive learning experience.
• Adhere to school policies and procedures.
• Record attendance according to school procedure.
• Assign homework according to lesson plan.
• Collaborate with colleagues as needed.
• Provide a written update to the absent teacher including attendance, progress, conduct, actions, and developments.
