The Inspired Teaching Demonstration School in Washington, DC, seeks self-motivated substitutes to cover daily/short-term assignments and long-term substitute roles for grades PreSchool–8. As part of a progressive, inquiry-based learning community, substitutes support lesson delivery, classroom routines, and student engagement, collaborating with teachers, residents, and support staff.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree, workshop-model experience, and a commitment to restorative practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required, content area preferred.
• Experience with workshop model preferred.
• Experience with restorative justice and/or Responsive Classroom preferred.
• Experience in play-based and arts-focused programs preferred.
• Ability to establish strong, trusting relationships with diverse students, families, and staff.
• Strong written and oral communication; integrity and humor.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans left by the teacher and cover duties as needed.
• Leave a daily written note for the teacher and principal.
• Plan and support long-term substitute lessons aligned with school mission.
• Use diverse teaching strategies to support student growth.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and assistants as applicable.
