Job summary

Hazelwood School District is seeking a Substitute School Counselor to implement the Missouri Comprehensive School Counseling Program and support student development. You will report to the Building Principal and carry out duties from planning and delivering lessons to providing counseling services.

The role requires a Master’s in School Counseling and DESE certification, with duties spanning individual and group counseling, career planning, and collaboration with staff and parents.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in School Counseling and Counseling Certification issued by the DESE.
• Proficient in preparing rigorous, interactive lesson plans.
• Able to work effectively with colleagues, parents, administrators, etc.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
• Discretion and confidentiality with district policies.
• Self-directed, highly motivated and independent worker.

Responsibilities

• Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated.
• Creates a learning environment conducive to student growth.
• Prepares lessons and shows evidence of preparation upon request.
• Guides the learning process toward counseling curriculum goals with clear objectives.
• Uses varied instructional techniques and media suitable for students.
• Encourages students to set and maintain classroom behavior standards.
• Implements Individual Student Planning: assesses progress and provides career planning and transitions.
• Provides counseling services: brief individual and small group sessions, crisis intervention, and referrals.
