Job summary

The Daily Advance in Elizabeth City, NC is seeking an energetic and dedicated sports journalist to cover sports-related news and events in Elizabeth City and surrounding counties.

The role focuses on sports features, enterprise reporting and highlighting top athletes, while also covering general news functions due to our small newsroom. Hours are flexible, but the job requires working nights and occasionally weekends.

Qualifications

• Experience in journalism, sports writing preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of language, grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Develop strong daily content including features, enterprise pieces and event coverage, including photos and video.
• Cultivate sources; recruit and manage contributors.
• Coordinate print and digital sports sections.
• Manage special projects involving sports.
• Meet deadlines and ensure content providers meet schedules.
• General assignment reporting.
