Rio Rancho Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for the Social Communication program at Rio Rancho Middle School. This 190-day, short-term contract covers the 2026-2027 school year with immediate starting date.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and the NM teaching license or eligibility with licensure expected within 90 days of hire; strong organizational and communication skills are essential to support IEP goals and collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• Current New Mexico license appropriate to the teaching assignment or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates teaching program with site-based goals and district-wide objectives.
• Instructs and assists students in motor, language, socio-emotional and cognitive development.
• Ensures that goals and objectives in IEPs are completed.
• Assists students with special needs as needed (feeding, positioning, bathroom assistance).
• Plans and directs instruction activities of educational assistants.
• Instructs students in one-on-one activities and in small groups.
• Maintains communication with educational staff on student progress.
• Maintains classroom environment for learning and safety.
• Delivers curriculum within the scope of teaching assignment.
• Maintains records of student performance and attendance.
• Completes required reports and attends staff meetings.
