The Department of Sociology at UC Berkeley is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach a range of courses in the department should openings arise.

The position's duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, managing graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), maintaining a course website, and writing exams.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or enrolled in an advanced degree program at the time of application.
• Ph.D. (or equivalent international degree) at the time of appointment.
• Ability to support the success of all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy.

Responsibilities

• Undergraduate and graduate teaching.
• May supervise graders and/or graduate student instructors (TAs).
• Hold office hours, assign grades, advise students.
• Prepare course materials (e.g., syllabus) and maintain a course website.
• Write exams and contribute to course administration.
