Responsibilities

  • Create or select long-range plans based on a review of system and state curriculum priorities, student profiles and instructional priorities.
  • Define goals and objectives for unit and daily plans.
  • Sequence content and activities appropriately.
  • Identify specific intended learning outcomes which are challenging, meaningful and measurable.
  • Revise plans based on student needs.
  • Plan and prepare a variety of learning activities considering individual student's culture, learning styles and needs.
  • Develop activities that foster active involvement of students in the learning process.
  • Plan and prepare lessons and instructional strategies supporting the school improvement plan and system mission.
  • Select, develop, modify and adapt materials and resources to address learning objectives and diverse needs.
  • Establish and maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Maintain a clean, attractive and organized learning environment.
  • Maintain academic focus with motivational techniques.
  • Establish routines and procedures and work with students on following them.
  • Create a learning climate that is challenging yet non-threatening.
  • Maintain instructional momentum with smooth transitions.
  • Establish testing environment and ensure test security.
  • Maintain efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Develop routines to minimize administrative time.
  • Manage materials and equipment effectively.
  • Organize materials for distribution and collection.
  • Instruct and supervise volunteers and aides as assigned.
  • Enforce school rules and policies.
  • Develop and use assessment strategies to support learner development.
  • Interpret and use data for diagnosis and planning.
  • Use ongoing assessment to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
  • Provide feedback on student work to improve performance.
  • Communicate progress to students and parents clearly and responsibly.
  • Encourage self-assessment and improvement planning.
  • Administer standardized tests as directed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of units and teaching strategies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of curriculum content and high learning expectations.
  • Apply principles of effective teaching and learning.
